Block user in chat
Block a person to stop receiving messages from them. You can no longer message each other, and the chat disappears from your overview.
This feature is only available on the web.
What is this?
With Block user you stop a specific member from contacting you in a 1:1 chat. Useful when someone keeps bothering you, you want to avoid a personal conflict, or you simply don't want messages from a person anymore.
What blocking does:
- No messages in the 1:1 chat, neither from you nor from the blocked person
- No new 1:1 chats between the two of you
- In your search for new chats, the blocked person no longer shows up
- The 1:1 chat disappears from your overview until you unblock them
How to block a member
- Open the 1:1 chat with the member on the web.
- Click ··· at the top right (chat options).
- Choose Block user.
- Confirm with "Block".
The block takes effect immediately. The app doesn't offer blocking; there you can only unblock people.
Unblock someone
- Open Messages › Chats and click ··· › Blocked people at the top. In the app: Avatar › Security › Blocked Users.
- Find the member in the list.
- Click "Unblock".
From that moment you can write to each other again, and the 1:1 chat reappears in your overview.
Permission
Blocking needs no special permission. Anyone who can see chats can block other people.
Tips
- For a one-off conflict, muting is often enough. Blocking is a much stronger step.
- In case of harassment or threats, also use "Report chat" so the Theatilo team can look into it.
- Blocking doesn't apply in group chats. The blocked person can still read and write messages there. Leave the group or talk to the admin if you need distance there too.
- Use blocking sparingly. For purely organizational issues, talk to the person directly or bring in the choir director or board.
