Send message
Send a message to a member or a group right from the chat, with text, attachments and an automatic push notification for the recipient.
What is this?
With Send message you write a new message in an open chat, either to the other person (1:1) or to all participants of a group. Messages are delivered in real time and trigger a push notification for the recipient, unless they have muted the chat.
How to send a message
- Open the chat with the member or group.
- Tap the input field "Write a message" at the bottom of the chat.
- Write your text. Add attachments with the paper clip icon.
- Click Send or, on the web, press Ctrl/⌘ + Enter. Enter on its own starts a new line.
The message appears in the history right away. One check mark means Sent, a double check mark Delivered, and a filled double check mark Read.
What you can attach
- Images: shown as a preview in the chat
- Documents such as PDFs: recipients can open or download them directly
- Up to 10 files per message, each at most 4 MB
Permission
You need the View chats permission and must be a participant of the chat to send messages. All members have this permission by default. You can't write in archived group chats or in 1:1 chats with people who are blocked.
Tips
- Keep messages short and to the point. For longer content or official announcements to the whole ensemble, use notifications.
- Use reactions instead of a short reply like "Okay" or "Thanks". That saves everyone in the group chat unnecessary notifications.
- Avoid sensitive content such as bank details or passwords in chats. Use secure channels for those.
- For important messages to many members, use a notification instead.
