Edit message

What is this?

With Edit message you can change a message you just sent, for example to fix a typo, add a link you forgot or smooth out a wording that could be misunderstood. All participants of the chat see the edited version, with a discreet "edited" note. This works for up to 15 minutes after sending.

How to edit a message

1. Open the chat with the message you want to edit.
2. Web: click ··· next to your message (or right-click the message) and choose Edit.
3. App: press and hold the message and tap Edit.
4. Change the text in the "Edit message" window. You can take out individual attachments there with "Remove attachment".
5. Click Save or press Ctrl/⌘ + Enter.

The changed message appears in the chat right away, for you and for all other participants.

Permission

You need the View chats permission and must be a participant of the chat. You can only change your own messages, never those of other members.

Tips

• Use editing sparingly. If you want to change the content completely, it's more transparent to write a new message than to change the original meaning after the fact.
• For plain typos, editing is ideal. Nobody has to send a correction message afterwards.
• If the message was completely wrong, delete it and write a new one. That's more honest than a major change to the content.
