Make someone admin in a group chat
Give admin rights to other participants of a group chat. They can then also manage participants and change the group settings.
What is this?
With Promote to admin you give a participant of a group chat extended rights. Admins can manage participants, change the group name and picture, make others admin and archive the chat. Useful when you don't want to manage the group alone or need someone to stand in for you.
How to make someone admin
- Open the group chat.
- Click ··· at the top right and choose Group settings. In the app you can also tap the group name.
- In the participant list, click ··· next to the member.
- Choose "Promote to admin" (app: "Make admin").
The member gets admin rights immediately and is marked "Manages the group" (app: "Admin") in the participant list.
Remove admin rights
To take admin rights away again, go the same way and choose Remove admin rights. The member stays in the group as a regular participant.
Permission
You have to be an admin of the group chat yourself to make others admin or to remove admin rights.
Tips
- Make at least one other person admin so someone is always available if you are on holiday or ill.
- In large groups, two or three admins who share the work pay off.
- When the board changes, remember to hand admin rights to the new board in good time.
- Agree among the admins who takes care of what (for example keeping the participant list up to date vs. moderating topics) to avoid confusion.
