What is this?

The chats overview is your central place for direct communication in Theatilo. Here you find all private 1:1 chats with individual members and all group chats you belong to. Unlike notifications (meant for official announcements to the whole ensemble), chats are for quick, personal coordination.

Typical uses for chats:

  • A quick question to a section leader or the choir director
  • Voice section coordination about a rehearsal date
  • Organizational matters in the board or a working group
  • Personal exchange between two members

How to use the overview

  1. Open Messages › Chats in the sidebar, or in the app under Messages › Chat.
  2. Tap an entry to open the chat and see the latest messages.
  3. Start a new chat with the "New Chat" button (web) or the "Chat" button at the bottom right (app).
  4. More actions for a chat are in the row's ··· menu on the web, or in the app when you press and hold the chat: mark as unread, mute and, as a group admin, archive.
  5. Archived group chats are under "Archive" at the top on the web, and under the "Archive" entry in the list in the app.

Each chat in the list shows the member's name (or the group name), the picture, the choir for group chats, a preview of the latest message, the time of the last activity and the number of unread messages.

Permission

You need the View chats permission to see the chats overview and take part in chats. All members have it by default. Under Choirs › Choir › Choir settings › Permission groups you can restrict the chat feature for individual groups if needed.

Tips

  • Use the search "Search chats" at the top of the overview to find the right chat quickly, especially handy in large ensembles.
  • Mute less important group chats if you only want to check them now and then. The messages stay visible, but you get no push notification.
  • Keep 1:1 chats for personal topics, and use notifications for official announcements to the whole ensemble.

Frequently asked questions

Why do I not see some members in the list?▾
The overview only shows chats you take part in. To write to a member for the first time, use "New Chat" and search for their name. Chats with people you have blocked are hidden.
What does the number next to a chat mean?▾
The number shows how many unread messages are in that chat. It disappears as soon as you open the chat. Muted chats show no number on the web.
How are the chats sorted?▾
Chats are sorted by their latest message, so the most recently active chat is at the top. You can recognize muted chats by a crossed-out bell.
