Create group chat
Create a new group chat for several members, for example for a voice section, the board or a working group in your ensemble.
What is this?
With Create group chat you set up a new chat for several members of a choir. Unlike a 1:1 chat, a group chat has a name, an optional picture and one or more admins who manage participants and settings.
You can pick participants one by one or add them automatically via Voice Parts and Ensemble Functions: anyone with one of the selected voice parts or functions is included automatically.
Typical uses:
- Voice section: soprano, alto, tenor or bass for internal coordination
- Board: short paths for organizational matters
- Project group: for example preparing a particular concert
- Section leaders: quick coordination between the section leaders
How to create a group chat
- Open Messages › Chats in the sidebar, or in the app under Messages › Chat.
- Click "New Chat" (web) or the "Chat" button at the bottom right in the app, and choose "Group chat".
- Select the choir (ensemble) the group chat belongs to.
- Enter a group name, for example "Soprano group" or "Board 2026".
- Optionally select voice parts or ensemble functions; their members are then included automatically.
- Add individual participants using the name search.
- Click "Create chat".
As the creator you automatically become the group's first admin and can make others admin. You set a picture afterwards in the group settings.
Permission
You need the Create group chats permission in the choir the group chat is meant for. By default the Administrator and Moderator permission groups have it. It can also be given to other groups via the permission groups.
Tips
- Choose a clear name that shows the group's purpose right away, for example "Concert prep May" instead of just "Concert".
- Use voice parts and functions for groups that change. New members of that voice part are then included automatically.
- Give admin rights to at least one other person in case you can't be reached.
- For official announcements to the whole ensemble, use notifications.
