Open chat
Open a chat from the overview to read the full history, write new messages or react to existing ones, in 1:1 chats and group chats alike.
What is this?
When you open a chat, you see the message history, sorted from the oldest message to the newest one at the bottom. You can reply right away, react to individual messages or read back through older posts. 1:1 chats and group chats work the same way.
How to open a chat
- Open Messages › Chats in the sidebar, or in the app under Messages › Chat.
- Tap the chat you want in the list.
- Read the history. The newest message is at the bottom; scroll up to load older messages.
- Write a reply straight away in the input field at the bottom.
On wide screens, the web opens the chat next to the overview so you can switch between chats quickly. On narrow screens and in the app, the chat opens as its own view, and the back arrow takes you to the overview.
What you see in the chat
- Profile picture and name of the member (1:1) or the group name with its choir (group)
- Message history with time, status (Sent, Delivered, Read) and reactions
- Who is typing right now
- Input field for new messages and attachments
- ··· menu at the top right for chat options such as Mute, Group settings, Report or Delete chat
Permission
You need the View chats permission to open chats and read messages. All members have it by default. For group chats you also have to be a participant of the group to see and open the chat.
Tips
- Press and hold a message (app) or click ··· next to the message on the web (right-click works too) to edit or delete it. To react, use the smiley below the message.
- Use the search in the chat overview to find a chat quickly.
- Click an image to open it in a large view, where you can browse through images and download them.
