Mute chat
Mute a chat to stop getting push notifications for it. The chat stays visible and you can read it at any time, only the alerts stay off.
What is this?
With Mute you turn off push notifications for a single chat. The chat stays in your overview and you still receive all messages; you just aren't interrupted by push alerts anymore. Useful for busy group chats that only concern you in passing.
How to mute a chat
- Open the chat you want to mute.
- Tap ··· at the top right (chat options).
- Choose Mute. The chat is muted right away.
You can also do this from the overview without opening the chat: on the web via the row's ··· menu, in the app by pressing and holding the chat.
In the overview you can recognize muted chats by a crossed-out bell next to the name. To turn muting off again, go the same way and choose Unmute.
Permission
You need the View chats permission to mute chats. All members have it by default.
Tips
- Mute busy group chats with lots of discussion that you only want to check now and then. That keeps your lock screen tidy.
- Keep important 1:1 chats with the choir director or section leader unmuted so you don't miss anything important.
- If a chat bothers you permanently and you no longer want to take part, deleting it is the better choice.
- In the notification settings you can also turn off push notifications entirely.
