Edit group chat name

What is this?

With Edit group name you change the name of an existing group chat. Useful when the purpose of the group has changed (for example after a new concert project) or the original name no longer fits.

How to change the name

1. Open the group chat.
2. Click ··· at the top right and choose Group settings. In the app you can also tap the group name.
3. Enter the new name in the Group name field (app: tap the name).
4. Click "Save".

The new name appears right away for all participants in the chat overview and in the chat itself.

Permission

You have to be an admin of the group chat to change the name. Regular participants see the name but cannot edit it.

Tips

• Choose a name that clearly shows the current purpose, for example "Board 2026" instead of just "Board" if the members change with each term.
• Avoid renaming often; it makes the chat harder to find in the overview.
• If the group's topic changes, a new group chat is often better than renaming the old one. That keeps the original history on topic.
