Voice trainer
The voice trainer turns a MusicXML file into practice audio for every voice. Members practise their voice in the app, also slower and with the microphone.
What is this?
The voice trainer automatically generates practice audio for every voice from a MusicXML file, along with the sheet music display. Members use it in the app to practise their own voice in a focused way — at original tempo or slower.
Perfect for practising:
- Difficult passages with your own voice clearly in the foreground
- First learning of a new voice
- Self-test with the microphone: the app shows whether you hit the right notes
How to set up the voice trainer (web)
- Open the piece in the library.
- Scroll to the Voice trainer exercises area.
- Click Upload MusicXML and choose the file.
- Give it a title, optionally a description, and choose Sound, Note announcement, Count-in and the number of bars for the count-in.
- Click Upload MusicXML. The exercise is processed — this takes a few minutes. It then shows Done.
With What do I need to know? (question mark icon) you open notes on how the MusicXML file should be structured.
How to practise (app)
- Open the piece in the app.
- Tap Trainer in the dock (on iPad Voice trainer). The icon appears as soon as an exercise is ready.
- Choose your voice and the tempo — original tempo, 75% or 50%.
- Start playback. The sheet music scrolls along.
What you find in the app
- Voice mixer — adjust volume per voice or mute voices
- Tempo — original tempo, 75% and 50%
- Repeat — set start and end points and practise a spot in a loop
- Metronome & note announcement — note announcement and count-in before your entrance
- Microphone — the app recognises which notes you sing; on request, an octave shift counts as correct
- Swing from the score file — if the MusicXML file carries a swing marking, the eighth notes play back swung
Loading the exercise needs an internet connection.
Sheet music from the music shop
Some publisher sheet music already comes with the voice trainer — the shop then shows Voice Trainer included. Any member with a license for this sheet music can practise.
Permission
Practising is open to every member with View sheet music. The Voice trainer exercises area in the browser — uploading, settings, replacing and deleting — is only visible to people with Create & edit sheet music.
Tips
- Export the MusicXML with repeats written out ("Unfold Repeats" in the notation program).
- Name the voices clearly in the file (soprano, alto, tenor, bass) — so members find their voice right away.
- Store a tempo marking in the file, so the original tempo is correct.
- Explain the mixer to members: own voice loud for learning, quiet or muted for self-test.
