Permission required: Notifications – Delete notifications

What is this?

With Delete notification you remove a notification from your choir for good. Unlike archiving, the notification isn't just hidden; it disappears completely: for all members, along with all comments, reactions, poll votes and attachments.

This is the right choice when:

  • You wrote the notification by mistake and nobody has really looked at it yet
  • Wrong information was shared that should no longer be visible in the choir
  • Sensitive data was included by mistake
  • A notification breaks the club's rules, for example with offensive content

In all other cases archiving is the better choice, because the history is kept.

How to delete a notification

  1. Open the notification from the notifications overview.
  2. Click ··· at the top right. Each notification in the list also has a ··· menu.
  3. Choose "Delete notification".
  4. Confirm the prompt "Delete notification?". Theatilo asks because the action can't be undone.
  5. The notification disappears from all overviews and the archive right away.

In the app, tap ··· at the top of the notification and then "Delete notification". Notifications sent to several choirs can only be deleted on the web.

What deleting removes

Deleting permanently removes:

  • The notification text
  • All comments from other members
  • All reactions
  • The poll and all votes cast
  • All attachments; the files are removed from the server

Files that were only linked from the Files area stay there. The notification quietly disappears from members' overviews; there is no push notification about the deletion.

Permission

You need the Delete notifications permission. By default the Administrator and Moderator permission groups have it.

Tips

  • If in doubt, archive instead of deleting. Archived notifications can be restored at any time.
  • Before deleting, post a short note as a new notification if the information was wrong. Otherwise members may be confused about why a notification has vanished.
  • Use Edit instead of deleting and recreating if you only need small corrections. Comments and discussion are then kept.

Frequently asked questions

Can I restore a deleted notification?▾
No. Deleting is permanent: the notification, all comments, reactions, poll votes and attachments are removed for good. If you are unsure, archive the notification instead.
Are members told about the deletion?▾
No. No notification is sent. The notification quietly disappears from the overview. Anyone who opens it later, for example from the bell, sees the note "Notification not found".
Who may delete notifications?▾
Anyone with the **Delete notifications** permission, by default the Administrator and Moderator permission groups. For a notification sent to several choirs, having the permission in one of the involved choirs is enough.
When should I delete rather than archive?▾
Only delete if the notification was really wrong or inappropriate. If it is just outdated, archive it. That keeps the history traceable without cluttering the overview.
