What is this?

A reaction is short feedback on a notification, much like in WhatsApp or Slack. Instead of writing a whole comment, you show what you think with an emoji: thumbs up for agreement, a heart for "love it", a laughing face for "that was funny", and so on.

Reactions are perfect when you want to show the author that you've seen the notification and like it, without flooding the discussion with "Thanks!" comments.

How to react to a notification

  1. Open the notification from the notifications overview; on the web you can also react directly in the list.
  2. Click the smiley icon below the text (Add reaction); in the app, tap the smiley below the notification.
  3. Pick the emoji you want from the selection.
  4. Your reaction appears right away below the notification. Other members see the emoji and the number of reactions.
  5. Tap your emoji again to take your reaction back.

What reactions do

Reactions are a quieter signal than comments:

  • No push notification: the author isn't actively notified
  • No email
  • Visible right away: all members who open the notification see the count and emojis
  • List of who reacted: "Who reacted?" (app: press and hold an emoji) shows the names

That way the author knows the notification was noticed, without getting constant push notifications.

Permission

You need the View notifications permission to react to notifications. All members have it by default. If you can see a notification, you can also react to it.

Tips

  • React instead of commenting when you only want to say "Thanks" or "Great!". That keeps the discussion tidy.
  • Use different emojis on purpose: thumbs up means agreement, a heart shows more enthusiasm.
  • Switch your reaction if you change your mind; a different emoji replaces the previous one.
  • Check the list of who reacted to see who has already agreed. That helps with informal votes.

Frequently asked questions

Does the author get notified about my reaction?▾
Reactions trigger neither a push notification nor an email. But the author sees your reaction whenever they open the notification, which keeps things low-key.
Can I take my reaction back?▾
Yes. Simply tap or click your emoji below the notification again, and your reaction is removed. You have one reaction per notification; if you pick a different emoji, it replaces the previous one.
Can other members see who reacted?▾
Yes. On the web, click "Who reacted?" below the notification; in the app, press and hold an emoji. You then see who reacted with which emoji.
Which emojis are available?▾
Ten emojis: 👍 ❤️ 😂 🎉 😮 😢 😠 🤔 👏 🔥. That way you can express your mood in one click.
