Permission required: Notifications – View notifications
What is this?
When you click or tap an entry in the notifications overview, the notification's detail view opens. Here you see the full content (text, attachments, poll, comments and reactions) and can take part yourself.
The detail view shows you:
- The full text of the notification, with clickable links
- Author, choir and publication time
- Attachments with file size and download option
- Poll with current votes and your status
- Comments from other members in the discussion
- Reactions with emoji and count
How to open a notification
- Open Messages › Notifications in the sidebar, or in the app tap Messages and then Notifications at the top.
- Tap or click the entry you want in the list.
- Read the full text and scroll down to see attachments, poll and comments.
- React or comment directly from the detail view.
- To go back to the list, use "Notifications" at the top left or the back arrow in the app. On wide screens the notification sits to the right of the list, so you simply click the next one.
What you can do in the detail view
The detail view offers several actions:
- Download an attachment: open or save the file in the browser or the app
- Take part in a poll: choose one or more options, depending on the settings
- Write a comment: leave a reply or a question
- React with an emoji: quick feedback without a comment
- Edit the notification: with the Create & edit notifications permission
- Archive or delete the notification: with the Delete notifications permission, via ··· at the top right
Permission
You need the View notifications permission to open notifications. All members have it by default. If a notification's visibility is restricted to certain permission groups, functions or chat groups, you only see it if you belong to one of them.
Tips
- For notifications with attachments, read the attachments too. Important details (sheet music scan, directions, program) are often not in the main text.
- Answer questions in the comments promptly when you asked them yourself. That keeps the discussion fair.
- React instead of commenting when you only want to show agreement. That keeps discussions easy to follow.
- Use J and K to jump to the next or previous notification when you read several in a row on the web.
Frequently asked questions
Is the notification marked as read automatically?▾
Yes. At the latest when you open the notification, it counts as read and no longer counts as unread. The author cannot see who opened the notification.
What do I see in the detail view?▾
The full text of the notification, all attachments to download, any poll with its current results, all comments from other members and the reactions given.
Can I respond directly from here?▾
Yes. You can comment below the notification, react with an emoji, download attachments and, if a poll is running, vote.
Are others notified when I comment or react?▾
When you comment, the author and everyone following the notification get notified. Anyone you mention with @ is notified too. Reactions do not trigger a notification but are visible to everyone.
