What is this?

Many children have no email address of their own. So that they are still full, active members, you add them with a family address: jonas:petra@example.com. The part before the colon is just a name; all mail goes to petra@example.com. Jonas sees events, gets reminders, counts in lists, and Petra responds for him.

How to add a child

  1. Open Ensembles › your choir › Members › "Add Member".
  2. Enter the child's first and last name and leave the email field empty.
  3. Under "Guardian", choose the parent, for example Petra Müller. She must already be a member of the choir. The field only appears for active members and if the parent link is switched on in the choir.
  4. The email field is pre-filled with the family address, such as jonas:petra@example.com. You can adjust it.
  5. Choose voice part and permission group as usual and save.

Jonas is now an active member, the parent link to Petra is active immediately, and Petra gets a notification.

What reaches the parent

Everything Theatilo sends to Jonas goes to Petra:

  • Login details and invitation
  • Reminders about open responses
  • The choir's notifications

Petra gets this mail in addition to her own, because she is a member herself.

Why not a passive member without an address?

A member without an email address can only be a passive member: they see no events, get no reminders and cannot respond to anything, not even through their parents. For children whose parents should confirm and decline for them, that is useless. The family address does the same as a real address without the child needing a mailbox.

Their own login later

Jonas can sign in himself at any time with the family address and the login details Petra received. As soon as he has his own email address, he changes it in his profile. The link to Petra is not affected.

Requirements

  • The parent needs a real email address and must be a member of the choir. For parents who do not sing, tick "Do not automatically add to events".
  • If the parent changes their address, the children's family addresses stay unchanged. Then adjust them in the children's member details.
  • Identical first names with the same parent address result in the same family address. Adjust it by hand for the second child.

Frequently asked questions

Is jonas:petra@example.com a real email address?▾
Mail to this address goes to petra@example.com. The part before the colon is just a name so that Theatilo can tell Jonas apart from Petra.
Why not simply add Jonas as a passive member without an address?▾
Passive members do not see events and get no reminders. For children whose parents should respond for them, that is useless. With the family address, Jonas is a full active member.
Can Jonas use Theatilo himself later?▾
Yes. He signs in with the family address; Petra received the login details. As soon as he has his own address, he can change it in his profile.
Two children are both called Jonas. Does that work?▾
Yes, but the address is built only from the first name and is not numbered automatically. Change it by hand for the second child, for example to jonas2:petra@example.com. The same address always belongs to the same account.
