Parent link at a glance

Parents confirm and decline events for their children, vote for them and see what the child sees. What the link allows and what it does not.

What is this?

The parent link connects two ordinary memberships: a parent's and a child's. Both have their own account, both are in the member list, both receive notifications. The only new thing is that the parent may respond for the child.

An example: Petra does not sing, but is a member of the children's choir of her children Lina (12, own login) and Jonas (9, no email address of his own). Thanks to the link, Petra confirms the Friday event for both without signing in three times.

  • Confirm and decline events for the child, including "Maybe" and a reason for declining
  • Vote in notifications: one vote per child, in addition to your own
  • See everything the child sees: including events and notifications meant only for the child's voice part, role or permission group, marked "visible because of Lina"

Comments under events and chat messages are always written by parents under their own name. There is no switching to the child.

What it does not allow

  • no access to the child's chats, files or sheet music; only your own permissions apply there
  • no access to the child's personal data such as address or phone number
  • no taking over the child's permissions
  • no access to a choir: the link only applies where both are already members. If Lina also sings in a second choir that Petra is not in, nothing happens there.

Not to be confused: Community parental consent is something different. It only controls whether an underage member may use the Community.

How it typically works

  1. The choir leadership invites the parent, separately from the child, like any other member. They tick "Do not automatically add to events" if the parent does not sing.
  2. The choir leadership creates the child. Children without their own address get a family address right away, and the link is active immediately.
  3. The child or the parent requests the link, in Settings under "Parents and children". The other side confirms. Alternatively, the choir leadership links them directly from the member list.
  4. Day to day, the parent opens the event, taps Confirm and selects the children in the "Who do you want to respond for?" window.

Good to know

  • "Do not automatically add to events" is the recommendation for parents who do not sing. New events then do not add them as pending. They still see notifications and events like any member.
  • Polls: as a member yourself you have your own vote, plus one per linked child.
  • Limit: at most 6 children per parent and at most 6 guardians per child.
  • Only the parent can remove the link, in their own profile. Neither the child nor the choir leadership.
  • Enabling: the choir leadership enables the parent link under Choir settings › General. Until then it does not appear when adding members or in the member list, and no link can be requested in the profile. Existing links stay saved when it is switched off, but only take effect in choirs where the feature is enabled.

Frequently asked questions

Does my child need their own account?▾
Yes. Parents and children are both ordinary members with their own account. The choir leadership creates children without their own email address with a family address, so all mail goes to you.
Do I see my child's chats?▾
No. The link only allows you to respond for your child and to see what they see. Your child's chats, files, sheet music and personal data stay out of reach.
Does my child join a choir through me?▾
No, never. A link never grants access to a choir. Both are invited separately by the choir leadership. The link only applies in choirs where you are both members.
How many children can I link?▾
Up to 6 children per parent, and a child can have up to 6 guardians. Both parents may respond; the last change counts.
