Edit media caption

What is this?

With the description you add context to a photo or video — who is in it, what is happening, where and when it was taken. That way, ten years from now someone will still know who is in the 2026 picture.

How to edit a description

1. Click "Media" in the sidebar and open the album.
2. Click the item to open the large view.
3. Click "Add description" or "Edit description" (pencil icon at the top right).
4. Enter a text — e.g. "Encore after the spring concert, from left: Anna, Bernd, Carla".
5. Click "Save". An empty field removes the description.

What a good description contains

• Who can be seen? — names of the people
• What is happening? — scene or action
• Where? — place, hall, stage
• When? — date or occasion, if not already in the album name

Permissions

You need Create & edit albums & media — administrators and editors by default. If the album allows member uploads, you may also edit the description of your own uploads.

Tips

• Add captions right after uploading — memories are freshest then.
• Ask around for old recordings — long-standing members often recognise faces.
• Write so it is still clear in 10 years — better to spell out names and places.
